Great Ladies Lunch at Cafe Malaga

You may have seen some mentions of the Unbiological Sisterhood not only in my blogs but also on McKinney’s Convention & Visitor Bureau’s website.  They schedule at least two lunches each month and countless other activities throughout.  I made it to my first lunch at Cafe Malaga this weekend. It was also my first visit to Malaga in it’s new location (the old Poppy’s Garden site).  It was cold so we met inside and, except for an unavoidable draft from the door, it was warm and cozy inside.  There were around 15 or 16 ladies, I think, and Malaga was a perfect spot.   Malaga still has the tapas menu that put them on the map but they also have a full entree menu.  I was not the only one drawn to the description of the BLT but, like the others, felt that you couldn’t come to Malaga and just have the BLT (even if it is super duper).    I loved the Spanish Azul Burger, a burger with sauteed onions, portabella mushrooms and blue cheese aioli on a sourdough bun.  I can’t wait for the warm weather so we can sit outside and take in a band on a summer evening.

That reminds me, I wanted to mention that The Cadillac Pizza Pub had live entertainment last weekend around 2:00 in the afternoon.  The band was called the Neckties and sounded really good.  I hope this is going to be a regular thing, having live entertainment earlier in the day.

The Sisterhood lunch was a lot of fun and I met several interesting women, including the author of Brenner World.  If you haven’t taken a look at her blog,  it is linked in the Blog Links section on the right.  She has a wonderful sense of humor and a critical eye for finding things that are funny or ironic just in our everyday surroundings.

Future Sisterhood events can be found listed either on their meet-up site (link listed under Community Links) or listed on the Convention & Visitor Bureau’s site (link listed under City Links).  They will be having another Cafe Malaga visit in February and there will be a group of the Sisterhood getting together to discuss The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath sometime in March.

I didn’t manage to do a full swing around the square this weekend.  I am hoping for better weather next weekend.  It’s almost t-shirt weather again and I’d really like to find the shop where I’d seen a McKinney t-shirt before.  I think it might have been the Antique Company Mall.

Until next time,

Happy Shopping
