You know Bike the Bricks is coming up this Friday. Yea! Come to the beer garden. I volunteered to greet revelers and bus tables. What can I say? My favorite job in life (so far) was being a hostess at the Medieval Inn on Greenville. I love being around people who just want to have a good time. It’s not hard when you start off with the right attitude!
So, bicycles have started showing up on the square to usher in our first competitive bike race in the square. Some are in unexpected places, like this one in front of the ReMax office across the street from the old, but not historic, courthouse.
I went over to check out the new biker bar, Dawgs N Hawgs, that is opening up Monday after next across the street from El Juarez Restaurant & Cantina.
I peeked in the back door and was lucky enough to meet the owner who is getting everything put together and let me come inside for a minute. I have to be honest. I was a little worried about a biker bar. After meeting her, though, I am not worried. I’m excited. I can’t wait until it opens. She’s really been working hard and it looks great. She has certainly had her share of trials and tribulations but she has risen to every challenge. It is going to be a private club but it doesn’t sound like it’s just a bar. She looked at opening as a restaurant but TABC wants a restaurant that serves alcohol to have 8 entrees and she has 7. Then there was some quibbling over whether or not a brat sausage is an entree. Whoever says that it isn’t must not own a grill.
Heirlooms is having a sale next week end. That is going to be a big weekend. Bike the Bricks in on Friday. Saturday is the Killis Melton Ice Cream Crank Off at Chestnut Square Historic Village and the McKinney Garden Club is having their Summer Splendor Home & Garden Tour. The Unbiological Sisterhood will also be downtown this weekend (check them out on Meetup.com for details).
Mom & POPcorn Candy Company had their greeter out.
Patina Green Home & Market is coming right along. I think that they are supposed to open June 26th? It’s looking great.
Aparicio’s had a sandwich board out. Apparently we have some karaoke in town!
There are tons of bicycles in the shops along Virginia. Swanky Boutique and Ambrosia Vintage Vogue both have great displays involving bicycyles but the light there was terrible and I couldn’t take a picture of anything other than the reflections on their glass windows. Cynthia Elliott has a great display.
I took closer shots of Cotton Hearts pink glitter bicycle but I didn’t notice the bicycle in the window of The Little Red Hen until I got home.
Square Burger is coming right along too. You can’t see in this picture but they’ve got burgers etched into the windows on their doors. I have heard through the grapevine that they may be opening next Wednesday.
It was a beautiful day on the square today. Hot, but beautiful.
Until next time,
