This weekend is Second Saturday, so art galleries (and some shops) will have special open hours from 7PM to 10PM this Saturday. Farmer’s Market will be running at Chestnut Square from 8AM to noon with Mark Wallace entertaining shoppers on his guitar. The North Texas History Center’s “Pioneer Roots” exhibit will be open 11 to 4PM. If you are not already on the McKinney Convention & Visitor Bureau’s e-mail list, I strongly recommend it. Every Thursday evening they send out a great e-mail synopsizing what’s hot for the weekend. Visit http://www.visitmckinney.com/ to sign up.
The big news appears to be the new “Echo Art Exhibit”, a juried art show opening at Laura Moore Fine Art Studio that is so large that it will also have pieces displayed in the McKinney Performing Arts Center. The collection includes work from over 45 local and regional artists and will be available for viewing until September 8th, Mondays through Saturdays from 1 to 5. A reception for the artists will take place this Saturday at Laura Moore’s from 7 to 10 PM.
Jake Dobscha is showing his artwork at La Misha. He work can be very “avant garde” and is definitely worth checking out.
Garrett Gallery is exhibiting watercolors from Harry Shields.
Orisons Art & Framing Gallery will be showing the “cowgirl art” of Carol Hoorman.
This would be a good weekend to check out the newest art gallery, SJS Gallery, across the street from Cafe Malaga at 106 South Church. If you find that they have a web site, please let me know. I’ve been looking but haven’t found anything yet.
Jon Christopher Davis will be performing at Landon’s Winery. The video below was posted to YouTube two months ago showing Jon performing out at Wales Manor.
Cadillac Pizza Pub is inviting folks to come “get buzzed” with Buzz Andrews.
Spoons will have Michael Anderson & Soul Vacation.
Lone Star Wine Cellars will have McCrain & Reynolds.
On top of that, it is not uncommon for some of the galleries and shops to bring in performers to play in front of their stores.
In other news, the Courier Gazette has been doing some really nice “spotlight” articles on some of the downtown merchants. If you haven’t seen them already check out these articles on And The Party Never Ends and The Book Gallery.
Until next time,
