In addition to David Quisenberry’s Limited Edition photo session covered in a previous post, here is what I have heard about going on for Valentine’s on the Square (so far):
Pretty much everything will need reservations, even if it doesn’t say so.
The McKinney Relay For Life will have a kick off event on the square Saturday morning at 10am.
Gregory’s Bistro – Saturday, February 12th and Monday, February 14th will be offering a special Valentine’s menu. Must have reservations. First course – Wild Mushroom Cream Soup, Crispy Proscuitto; Second course – Grilled Ceasar Salad, Texas Goat Cheese and House Cured Salmon; Third course – Pan Seared Chilean Bass on a bed of Creamy Lobster Risotto garnished with Roasted Shallots and Tarragon ~ or ~ Roasted Rack of Lamb with White Truffle Mashed Potatoes and Grilled Asparagus with a Spicy Teardrop Tomato Coulis; Fourth course – Raspberry Chambord Creme Brulee, Chocolate Dipped Strawberries, complimentary Champagne. Remember it BYOB and you need reservations!
Landon Winery is hosting a Valentine’s Winemaker Dinner in the Grand Ballroom (in The Grand Hotel) February 12th at 7:00. This will be a 5-course meal with wine pairings personally selected by Bob Landon. Reservations are required and you can book on-line through their event listing on their Facebook page. The event will be limited to 75 guests. Dress is “Cocktail Casual”.
Cafe Malaga will have a special opening on Monday, February 14th, from 4pm to 10 pm and will have a special Valentine’s menu available starting Wednesday the 9th up through Valentine’s Day. They will be closed on Tuesday (the 15th). In addition to other menu items, guests can enjoy a meal served by courses. Fish and meat entrees are available in the coursed meal and include:
~ Pan Seared Scallops with Swiss Chard, Cherry Coulis and Garlic Refrito or
~ Pan Seared Monkfish with Artichoke Ragout and Romesco Sauce or
~ Pecan Grilled Lamb Lollypops with caramelized cipollinis, baby organic carrots and port reduction or
~ Pecan Grilled Tenderloin with fingerling potatos, asparagus tips and marcona almonds relish.
Spoons Cafe will be having a Cupcake Decorating and Family Buffet Feast on Valentine’s Day. The family feast will include Momma’s Meatloaf, Chicken Tetrazzini, Chicken Fried Steak, Chicken Fingers, Grilled Chicken Breast with apple mushroom sauce, mac and cheese, fried okra, southern style green beans, mashed potatoes and a salad bar including their “Sig” salad and Mixed Greens Salad. And, of course, there will be Spoons Cobbler with ice cream and cupcake decorating.
McKinney Performing Arts Center will have a couple of classicly romantic offerings for Valentine’s weekend. Saturday, they will be showing a silent version of The Student Prince in Heidelburg (to be accompanied by the Wurlitzer) at 8 pm. I can’t imagine The Student Prince as a silent film. When I was growing up, my mom had an LP of the Mario Lanza version and, though I’ve never even seen that version, I have “Drink, Drink, Drink” on my iPod.
On Sunday evening, they’ll have Flamenco Guitarist Ronald Radford at 7:30.
If I hear of more events, I’ll tweet them … @onthesquareblog.
Until next time,
