Is it that time of the year for you too? So far, we’ve bought a poinsettia, a box of pre-formed oatmeal raisin cookies and a cheesecake… all in support of various children either through my office or who have knocked on our door. Well, there’s one child this year that is really going the extra mile for a fundraiser.
Six-year old Ruby Allen is fundraising for an event coming up this weekend called the Red Balloon Run & Relay. The event benefits Children’s Medical Center and each participant chooses the specific program, service, clinic, and/or research center they want to support. Ruby chose the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders in honor of Walker Jack Rainey, a friend lost to cancer at just seventeen-months old. Last year, she raised $1,400 and she is already well ahead of that target for this year.
She’s got her Personal Fundraising Page on the event site.
She’s got a Facebook Fan Page called “Go Ruby Go“.
She’s also (with a little help) producing videos of her fundraising efforts. If there was a “Trump’s Apprentice” for six-year olds, Ruby would be a shoe-in. She recently sat down with Rick Wells, owner of Rick’s Chophouse and Sauce on the Square and a donor to her current campaign. Wells’ companies take pride in regularly donating to around 250 children’s charities during the year.
Here’s Ruby talking with Rick Wells at Rick’s Chophouse:

The event is held at Children’s Medical Center’s Legacy Campus in Plano this weekend on October 22nd.
Until next time,
