I’ve been so busy that I almost forgot that there were so many great events coming up.
Town Square Buzz published an excellent article, “McKinney is For Lovers”, that details all of the Valentines’ options for downtown romance this coming Tuesday so I won’t repeat all that. Looking through my email, here is what they missed:
The Pantry Restaurant is having a lunch buffet from 11 til 2:30 for $15.99. The menu includes beef tips with rice, baked tilapia with cajun sauce, lemon herb chicken with sauteed mushrooms, vegetable medley, wild grain rice, mixed green salad, and a mini-sweet tart assortment.
Landon Winery will offer 2 glasses of any Landon Winery labeled wine, a small cheese board, and chocolate truffles for $24. They have special red and yellow gift box sets for $19.99 and you can get a set of 6 of their popular Red Rose or Yellow Rose wines for $69.99.
Krewe of Barkus, the downtown costumed dog parade, is coming up next Sunday, February 19th from 12:30 to 4 pm. The theme is “All American Barkus: A Salute to Presidents, Pioneers, and Pawtriots”. Dogs must be pre-registered for the parade. See the Art Institute of McKinney for a registration form.
Saturday, February 25th, will see the Towne Lake Trout Derby again from 8 am till noon. If you haven’t been to this park, this is a gorgeous place to spend a Saturday morning. It’s not within walking distance of downtown but it’s a very short drive. They have paddle boats and a wonderful path around the lake as well as a nature walk through a densely wooded area. For the Trout Derby, the city will be stocking the lake with 4,700 trout and there will be a free hot dog roast and a kid’s casting contest. You do have to have a valid Texas fishing license and your own pole and bait. There are awards for the longest cast, the heaviest stringer, the largest fish caught, and the smallest fish caught.
Also on the 25th, from 11 to 1, Chestnut Square’s Yesterday and Today Fashion Show & Tea Luncheon will be in The Grand Ballroom at the Grand Hotel. The fashion show will include fashions from 1850 to 1920. Tickets are $20, $18 in advance.
It’s membership renewal time for McKinney Historic Neighborhood Association members again. You can join or pay your dues securely through their web site, http://mhna.bbnow.org/. Membership is $40 a year per household and gets you invites to special events and frequent informative emails.
I can’t wait for warmer weather.
Until next time,
