April is THE Month for Heard Craig Center For the Arts

LADIES NIGHT OUT

First off, mark your calendars for the annual Ladies’ Night Out coming up Thursday, April 18th.  This event draws hundreds of ladies each year for the food, fashion, and fun and will be held from 6 to 9 pm in the Heard Craig Hall at 306 N. Church Street, across the street from First United Methodist Church and just north of the beautiful yellow Heard Craig house that faces onto Hunt Street.

Guests will be served delicious hors d’oeurves and desserts while shopping some of the most unique and elegant retailers in the area and listening to music provided by pianist Tom Sullinger. Fabulous door prizes will be given out and raffle items from Warthan Dermatology, Griffin’s Jewelry, Tomes Auto Group and more will be available.

Tomes Auto Group will provide coupons for a nitrogen tire fill up OR a mini detail to everyone who purchases a ticket to the event.

Tickets for the event are $20 for Heard-Craig League members if purchased in advance, $25 for non-members in advance or $25 for Heard-Craig League members at the door or $30 for non-members at the door.  Proceeds from the event will benefit the preservation of the historic Heard-Craig House and Carriage House.

MUSIC IN THE GARDEN

The “Music in the Garden” series returns on April 11th & 25th at 7 PM in the area known as Katie’s Garden, the manicured east lawn of the Heard Craig.  Guests are invited to bring family, friends, lawn chairs, picnic baskets, and non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy the free concerts by McKinney’s E-Flat Porch Band (on the 11th) and the McKinney Community Band on the 25th.

The Heard-Craig garden is located at 205 W. Hunt Street in McKinney’s historic district. For more information about Music in the Garden, call 972-569-6909.

SPENCER MYER SOLO RECITAL & YOUNG ARTIST’S PIANO COMPETITION

In this annual competition for high school pianists, talented young musicians will be competing against each other for cash prizes while nurturing and showcasing their skills in master classes and receptions over a three-day weekend April 12th – 14th.

Dr. Spencer Myer will attend at the Guest Artist/Adjudicator and will start the weekend with a solo recital Friday night at 7:30 in which he will perform works of Haydn, Schubert, Albeniz, and Stravinsky.

Tickets to the Friday evening concert can be purchased online through the McKinney Performing Arts Center or at the door. Adults: $20, Seniors: $17, Students: $5 (free if accompanied by a parent who has purchased a ticket).

PLUS MORE BRUNCHES AND SHOWS

April 24th – 12 to 1 PM –  The continuing “Texas Writers and Words Series” will host guest speaker Sharon Hudgins, food editor of European Traveler website and the food columnist for German Life magazine (US). Her food and travel articles have appeared in Saveur, Gastronomica, Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, and Fiery Foods & BBQ. She is the author of four non-fiction books including a cookbook about the regional cuisines of Spain.

April 26th & 27th – 3 shows – “Beauty and The Beast, Jr.” by McKinney Area Christian Home School Department

April 28th – Women’s brunch benefiting Shiloh Place

April 26th – Look for an evening of dance in Katie’s Garden to be performed by Elledanceworks.  The performance will be free and the date is currently TBA. (Updated on April 4th with date.  Thanks to Silky Hart for the info!)
