Last Saturday Chestnut Square hosted the first of the weekly Farmer’s Markets. That’s when I knew it was finally Spring.
My friend Heather was visiting from California – the home of the Farmer’s Markets – so I thought I would challenge myself and take her to the BEST and CUTEST Farmer’s Market in Texas, here in our own beautiful town, McKinney TX.
I asked Heather: “Don’t you feel people here have a local warmness with a real personal approach to what they are selling?” She answered: “Everybody is just so nice and keeps smiling!”
That is so true.
We got to meet a few wonderful vendors, some old some new to the Farmer’s Market scene. All selling amazing, tasteful and authentic product.
I even got to experience a real celebrity moment when one of the vendors, Leisha Phipps, owner of the Huck’s Treehouse, recognized me and asked, “You are the mother of that cute little girl with glasses..” It made me proud but it wasn’t all.. She added: “And you write for the On The Square blog?”
My husband thinks I am a celebrity now.
Another great stop was at the Sadie B Foods stand, which sells wonderful sauce and spice, Jamaica style, I only wished they had some Jerk chicken to go with those tasty sauces.
I also met Ron, a very nice and knowledgeable vendor at the Texas Olive Ranch stand who offered me a taste of the Rosemary olive oil and the pure Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and although Ron didn’t agree, a nice slice of home made pugliese bread would have been nice with my olive oil sample.
That’s when my friend Heather suggested:”Why don’t we buy some Cranberry Walnut Raisin Bread from the Village Baking Co.?”
Our morning was perfect, thanks to the wonderful music and the magical atmosphere. Sweet Life Baking Company offered us delicious samples of cookies and cupcakes and they won the prize for the BEST and MOST excited family at the Farmer’s market, I couldn’t resist taking a photo of them.
Older faces also made the experience even more authentic, it was wonderful to see the Tanglewood Creek Family Farm stand, owned by Chris and Michelle McNeill, their herbs and skin care products are just amazing and I am definitely considering a trip to their Farm soon!
We had a lovely morning, Chestnut Square scored again, and can most definitely rival California any day!
