Preserving the history of McKinney

The Heard-Craig House

Today I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Barbara Johnson, who is the Executive Director at the Heard-Craig Center for the Arts here in McKinney. Barbara not only gave me and little Johnny a very informative and interesting tour of the Heard Craig House, but also made us feel very welcome and special.

I felt honored to enter the home of the Heard-Craig Family and learn about the talented and charming Kathryn (Katie). To get to admire her amazing artwork as well as have the oportunity to photograph her beautiful, authentic and still perfectly intact dresses. The Heard Craig house also has a colorful garden that is surrounded by majestic mature trees – just a perfect example of a typical Historic McKinney home.

Kathryn Heard Craig was one of the first women in the late 1800’s to have the forward thinking vision to foster the arts through exhibits and educational programs. She founded the woman’s club, giving opportunity to women – who at that time didn’t go to college – to educate themselves through the arts as well as educational programs. The Heard- Craig Center for the Arts is very passionate in keeping Katie’s vision alive and have made it their mission to continue to do so.

Hunt – McKinney), online at www.heardcraig.org or call 972.569.6909 to purchase tickets with your credit card.

I couldn’t resist taking some photos of the beautiful building, while Johnny was running around trying to break the China collection. Enjoy!

Patrizia
