I am so excited to introduce you to my new guest featured in this week’s People On The Square. She is a truly lovely and kind woman. Her energy is just amazing she will hypnotize you with her sweet ways. She is the proud key holder of a wonderful building in Downtown McKinney, the Heard Craig Center for the Arts. She is successfully preserving the memory of one of McKinney’s oldest families and has a special way to make you fall in love with them and the history of our town.
Please welcome Barbara Johnson!
She is not Cindy’s sister by the way, although more than one person have assumed that in the past!
My name is…Barbara Johnson I am from… Oklahoma, but came to Texas to attend SMU and never left. I am the Executive Director at the Heard Craig Center for the Arts in Downtown McKinney. The Heard Craig House is... a lovely representation of another time. It’s filled with the original family’s furnishings, memorabilia, clothing and art collection and that makes it quite unique among historic home museums. The Heard Craig Family was special because… they were very appreciative of their success and good fortune and in turn became great philanthropists and champions of education I have been on the square for… 14 years. I love living in McKinney… because there is a great feeling of belonging. I enjoy running into people I know just about everywhere I go. Even though McKinney has grown so much there is still the small hometown feel of the historic district that I love so much. My favorite spot on the square is… It’s just impossible to choose one favorite spot. My favorite memory of an event in Downtown McKinney is… I love Second Saturdays and have great memories of time spent with my best friends having dinner, shopping, listening to music and enjoying great art. I am very grateful to all of the people who worked so hard to make Second Saturday so successful and such a joyful event. I’m very excited to announce that the Heard-Craig is going to begin special Second Saturday art exhibits in the Heard-Craig House. The first one will be on February 14, 2015 featuring the work of Frank Klepper. I love to hang out on the square because… I always run into people I know. I wish the square was/was not… Well, I absolutely love to shop on the square so I really wish I had more willpower where the square is concerned. My greatest wish is for the square to remain beautiful, vibrant and a lovely place for friends and family to gather (& shop). Come by the Heard Craig House… We have drop in tours on Tuesday & Thursday at 2, but we’ll also do tours by appointment. Saturday drop in tours will begin again in February 2015.
